Why Use A Fan Impeller?
An impeller or squirrel cage fan as they are sometimes called is a rotating component of a centrifugal fan which transfers energy from the motor; it drives the fan by accelerating air outwards from the centre of rotation — the velocity achieved by the impellor transfers into pressure when the fan casing confines the outward movement of the air. Impellors are usually short cylinders with an open inlet or eye to accept incoming air, vanes to push the air out radially, and a splined, keyed, or threaded bore to allow a driveshaft.
